Light a Candle
Petersen, Judith Ann Age 78, of Mounds View, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Suite Living in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Judy was born on December 5, 1944, in Hallock, Minnesota. She married Bruce L. Petersen on November 4, 1966, in Phoenix, Arizona. They moved to Minnesota in 1966 where they raised 3 sons. Judy was kind, caring, and curious with a joy of life, especially when surrounded by family. She loved her Gopher basketball, General Hospital, quilting and Werther’s Originals. She spent her adult life caring for and raising children, beginning with her three sons, to several years of daycare at home and at church, and as a paraprofessional caring for disabled children at Columbia Heights Public Schools. A beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, sister, and friend, she is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bruce L. Petersen, her sons, Jason (Lori), of Pine City, MN, Jeremy (Laura), of Cottage Grove, MN, and Steve, of Spring Lake Park, MN, her brother, David (Jeanene) Vowles, of Phoenix, AZ, her sister, Phebe Wilson (Vowles), of Mesa, AZ, her five grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew, Christian (Stephanie), Emma, and Samuel, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Harris L. Vowles, her mother Gwen E. Vowles (nee Gwen V. Easter), and her brother Richard H. Vowles. There will be a celebration of Judy’s life at 11:00 am with a visitation at 10:00 am on Thursday November 2 at Atonement Lutheran Church, 1980 Silver Lake Road, New Brighton, Minnesota 55112. Following the service, there will be a light lunch at the church. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Alzheimer’s research has been requested (www.alz.org/donate).
